Our year 1 and 2 students have been given the challenge to make a catapult with popsicles and elastic bands. Once the catapult was made they shot their wooden missiles to record baseline data. Next they brainstormed ideas on how to improve their design. They shot their missiles after each change and recorded the new distances.
The yr 3 students have been learning about the Engineering Process in Imagineers. Their first task is to build a marble runner with limited materials.
2 paper cups
2 paper straws
3 pieces of A3 card
3 patty pans
4 marbles
Students brainstormed ideas and designed their marble runner. During the build they are learning more about the Engineering Process:
Use as little materials as possible to keep the cost down
Look at the characteristics of our items and how can they help us to guide or catch the marble?
How can we fold paper to make it stronger
Students have build their first prototype and tested their marble runners on Friday. The video's are below.
