Year 4 and 5 students have started their second task. Their challenge is to move the robot to the red bin, collect the rubbish, by moving the whole robot inside the red rectangle. They reverse out, drive down the road where they use their ultrasonic sensor to turn the corner. Using distance in degrees and rotations, they make their way to the rubbish dump point. Red rubbish goes in the red bin, blue rubbish in the blue bin.
In Robotics in year 3 students are learning about the Engineering side of Robotics. They had to build an attachment to their robot that can be used to kick a ball. Some students used gears, some used a swing arm. One student build more complicated gears which might not be able to kick a ball but give us an idea of the possibilities available in gear building. Next class students will be programming their robot to move to the ball and kick.
Can all students please download the Lego Mindstorms Education app onto their I-pad. Thanks

In year 5 and 6 students are given a real life challenge: How to drive a car, stop when you see a pedestrian, turn corners and reverse park into your garage. Some teams calculated the distance of each street and programmed the robot to stop at the zebra, turn the corners and reverse into the garage.
Other teams took on the more challenging task to use the ultrasonic sensor to detect the pedestrian and use the colour sensor to detect corners on the red paper and the garage on the blue paper.

Hi students, we want to start programming on Thursday now that we have finished building our robots. In class we are learning about computer science and Binary. I have added the QR code for online support with our programming lessons below. This part of learning looks like games but you learn the basics of programming skills. The web address is: https://studio.code.org/s/20-hour
